I can’t think of any industry where the pioneers are less regarded and disrespected then they are in the hip hop industry. In football names like John Madden, Joe Montana and Dan Marino are placed on pedestals and the players and coaches who come after them have nothing but the utmost respect and admiration for them. In boxing which is one of the more violent sports, legends like Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Leonard are adored by all. Maybe it’s a music thing? Nope, that’s not it either. If you look at the reception that the Rolling Stones or Paul McCartney receive at their concerts or the box office tally for the Johnny Cash and Ray Charles movies you would see that there is definitely a respect and demand for these legends.

There is a saying that goes “without those who came before us, we would not be able to accomplish what we do every day!” So why is it in the world of Hip Hop that if you came out during a certain time period or if you haven’t made an album in a while that you are considered a has-been. I know the demographic for hip hop fans falls into the generation x category who many people claim are the “what have you done for me lately” generation but that still doesn’t excuse this conduct. Not only are hip hop pioneers disregarded and unheralded they are often the target of the newer breed of hip hop artists. For some reason the artist in the hip hop industry feel threatened by their pioneers rather then fortunate. Instead of embracing these pioneers they often disrespect and denounce them. Yes, it may be true that past great hip hop artist have already had their time but I can’t understand how that in anyway infringes on the current hip hop star’s time. It seems the hip hop industry is in a state where their artist’s understand the quickest way to get a reputation is to try to discredit a previously established artists reputation. Unlike in sports, movies and other genres of the music industry where it is common place to have the proverbial torch handed to the next generation of starts, hip hop artists feel as though it is their duty to take that torch.

It is clear to see that the state that hip hop is currently in is that of a dog eat dog manner, but this doesn’t excuse the fact that these hip hop artist are turning their back on the ones who truly paved the way for them and can still be of great service. It is quite saddening to watch a pioneer attempt to make a comeback only to have their legs cut from underneath them by the very artists they indirectly helped create. The hip hop fans are so influenced by the new crop of hip hop artists that they themselves do not have the time of day for the pioneers who helped build this hip hop empire. Hopefully one day the true pioneers of hip hop will be rewarded and respected as they so obviously deserve.
glass wedding favors

This has been a long decade’s worth of music. It’s pretty crazy to think about the fact that the decade is nearly over. Has that much really happened over the course of the last 10 years? If it has, it’s gone by really quickly and I can’t believe it’s almost over.

Having said that, there’s been a ton of great indie rock music looking back and we’ve been privileged enough to enjoy the emergence of some great indie rock bands that should go down as legends when all is said and done. Here are three of the more best indie rock bands of the decade.

Wilco. Their alt-country, twangy sound was emulated by so many bands over the course of the decade and they might be responsible for the trends that emerged as a result. This is one of the best bands out there and they continue to churn out great music.

The White Stripes. This is garage rock at its core, and they’ve been there since the beginning of the decade. Jack and Meg White create a monster sound with just the two of them, and people absolutely love their music. Their bluesy rock is definitely music at its finest.

Radiohead. While they emerged in the 90s, it’s fair to say that some of their most meaningful work has taken place over the course of the last 10 years. This is a legendary band that truly evolved as times changed – and it’s fair to say that they evolved for the better.
vistaprint coupon codes

The world famous Camden Market may be the main focus of attention for the majority of visitors to this area of North London but for lovers of indie music there are few places more exciting to visit than Camden Town.

Each year a two day sprawling inner-city festival called the Camden Crawl takes place over 14 or so music venues in the local vicinity and has quickly become a highlight of the year for many people. However, Camden is a musical town all year round and there are very few places which offer a better range of venues from small to medium sized venues within such a small distance. Ably served by the London Underground, Camden is viewed as the London epicenter of indie music and although new pretenders such as Shoreditch may try and steal its crown, Camden Town is likely to remain the indie stronghold of London for a long time to come.

The historical impact that Camden Town has had on music runs back a few decades. In the 1970s Bob Marley was resident in the area and The Clash were frequently spotted rehearsing and playing gigs in Camden Town. In the 1990s, Prince opened up a boutique store in the area, a move which fitted in perfectly with some of the more questionable career decisions he was making at the time.

Camden Town was the spiritual home of Britpop with many of the bands having roots or property there and a great number of record labels, including Creation Records and pluggers being located in the general area. Blur were the band most commonly linked with Camden and ex-guitarist Graham Coxon is still regularly seen in the local bars and shops.

Some of the pubs and gig venues which played host to this mid 90s phenomenon includes:
•	The Good Mixer
•	The Dublin Castle
•	The Worlds End
•	Camden Palace
•	Underworld
•	The Monarch

On any night of the week, you were likely to bump into someone from Oasis, Blur or Pulp having a drink and for the six months to a year when the scene was at its most popular, it seemed as though the entire indie world converged on the area.

Britpop quickly faded though and although the vast popularity of Camden dipped slightly; it still remained an extremely popular venue. MTV UK has their main offices very close to Camden Lock and many labels are still prominent in the area ensuring it remains a popular hang out for many artists and music industry movers and shakers.

The popularity of Camden soared again in recent years due to Pete Doherty and Amy Winehouse living in the area and regularly being pictured in the many bars and venues in the local area. Given that these two artists have featured heavily in the mainstream media in the past few years, there has been a great deal of attention back on Camden and it is yet again viewed as the home of London’s indie scene.

A fire in February 2008 may have caused damage to the market and one of the major pubs The Hawley Arms but plans are underway to rebuild the area and there still remains a huge range of venues and pubs within the district.
working mom
